Auto/Manual Function

Unfortunatly I got a Bimmer that is Auto, it was the only one i could afford at the time, but rest assured I WILL have a manual when I purchase my next BMW.

But anyways I dont know how many of you have autos on here, but the button that says A/M (next to the shifter). I usually put it in M and shift 1-2-3... is this harmful to my tranny?

and also is there another way to shift into 4th other than by pressing A and putting it in Drive?

Your Ride: Nothing .. for now.
It's not harmful really. It might wear it down marginally faster than usual just because it's you shifting when you want to rather than the auto software doing it.

There is no other way to get into 4th.

you can still shift 1-2-3 on A utomatic, only it will downshift for you if you are hard on the accelerator, and then you can reach 4th gear by putting it in drive.

depends on the year. On my old 93 auto I had to put it into drive and push A to get 4th gear. on my 96 auto and my moms Z3 you can keep it in M and put it into drive and it will shift to fourth.

Mine does not drop out 4th gear when in manual mode. It will shift to fourth.
The only thing that pisses me off is the 1 second dleay. It's not ALWAYS ONE SECOND!!! ARGH!
I dont understand why they made you press A to go into 4th back then.
