Help - I got a wierd problem

here's what is going on.
I shift and drive and everything is normal until I get on the highway. in 3rd 4th and 5th gear everything is fine until I get above 3500 rpm after that I lose power but the engine continues to rev. It feels kinda like the clutch is partially dis-engaged but I'm not riding the clutch. I don't know what to make of it.

Has anyone experienced anything like it?

I havent, and unfortunately mine is auto, but it could be that the clutch needs adjusting?

How many miles on car? If it's high mileage it might be time for a clutch.

Doesn't sound like mileage is too high. re: 1st & 2nd gears, slipping in higher gears is early warning that clutch is bad or out of adjustment because in higher gears there is more "load" on overall drivetrain. I'll bet is adjustment, if I remember right that's a fluid clutch.. check the brake fluid level. How's the pedal pressure?

pedal pressure seems fine, I'll check the brake fluid the next time I'm outside. I'm not afraid of having the clutch replaced. I just want to be certain that it is going to solve the problem. I think you are right it is a fluid clutch. This just started happening since the weather got below freezing, is it possible that it may be fluid related?

yea, you might have low fluid and or possible leak at fitting. Cold temps will cause that. You might to check record on last "brake flush". Brake fluid absorbs moisture and under pressure will compress. Keep me posted. I'll be on/off all day -{writing articles for audio magazines - fun?)

sounds like you should replace the brake fluid.

the Brake fluid level is fine, I don't know when the last flush was. I only have about 2 years worth of records.

Well here is the final word, it was the clutch. Unfortunately I got into an accident on the way to have it put in. But I figured I would wrap up the thread in case someone stumbles across it in the future.

can an E36 clutch be adjusted? and if so how? My brother is having a similar problem. Did you just replace the clutch or did you adjust it?
