Weird Heating Problem-Calling All Gurus

Ok, E36 328i 4 door. Two things happening. When my defroster is on, it is always on full blast, when I try to move the "power" down, it just turns it off, theres no happy medium. The biggest issue though is, its the dead of winter and I can turn the heater on the top vents, or the foot vents, but no heat will come out of the center vents.

Anybody have any ideas? Coolant System is full, didnt seem to have any bubbles. Im dying!!! Its sooo cold....

Does it ever turn on and off by itself, or if you turn it on, it stays on?

Also I removed your duplicate thread in General Automotive, this is the right forum to ask the question (and get the best answer). :thumbup

try replacing your microfilter for better flow.

The center vent on mine has hot and cold dial just for the center vent, is yours on the hot side? jm 2cents

btw i think that is a common problem with the "no medium" thing, i think its just the switch

It's a switch issue. Dudesky is the resident "fix it guru" - if he doesn't have an answer, he'll find it for you. :videogame

I think the defroster always is on full blast.

As for no heat coming out of your middle vents, check that red and blue dial in the dash under the left vent (above the shifter and radio). Make sure it is in the middle or to the right. If it is to the left, only cold air will come out of your middle vents.

^^^This also what I've found on the subject. Apparently you can choose between cold and warm air through the center vents, even though the heat is on. I have an analog climate control, so I can't help much :(

can u get cold air to blow out of the center vent?

billycuth 12-13-2005 09:06 AM

^^^ yes, by setting the dial under the left vent (above the radio) all the way to the blue (cold) side. Conversely, set it to the red (warm) side to get warmer air. Set it in the center for true climate control.
