Spongy? clutch pedal

Define spongy. What exactly does that feel like??

I noticed something about my pedal yesterday. It's been vibrating when engaged. Should I be worried? It's fine starting up in 1st, but going into 2nd & 3rd, the pedal vibrates slightly. I can almost feel the clutch disc spinning through my foot. The car shifts smooth as a baby's ass and the car runs normal, but that vibrating has me a little worried. Nothing else out of the ordinary that I can see- the fluid is good and there's no leaks, and my guibo is fine.

I know BMW clutches shudder sometimes, but that's not what this is. The tranny & clutch are new (installed 3/05). Ideas? Suggestions?

Spongy would be a "soft" (or softer than normal) pedal. As far as vibration, something sounds out of balance. From your description it's only under load & speed which makes me think it's a balance issue. Maybe you picked up something or threw a weight off driveshaft. I wouldn't get too stressed unless it starts getting progressively worse. It could be something as simple as a transmission mount. 2 things to look for: A) Trans mount worn or showing signs of wear (cracks,etc..) B) a stone, rock or something wedged under mount. I had a stone lodged under trans mount and could feel all kinds of things in pedal. Could also be a support bearing issue (if your ride has one - I'm not in front of one to know) Keep me posted. I'll check some of my factory manuals when I get home. FINALLY (Haven't been home for 7 months)

yes, as clapton said, its about balance, i think it may be your flywheel, but i dont see what would have caused that, you see, heres why;

when i replaced the clutch, i also removed the flywheel to replace the pilot bearing behind it, just b/c the tranny was already off and i might as well, so the flywheel has a few bolts, i dont know how many, but since i didnt put the bolts in the SAME spot, it started vibrating, i dont know if it was the clutch bolts or the bolts of the flywheel, but i guess one screw weighed more than the other and threw off the balance

Hmmm . . thanks guys. I let my buddy drive the thing and he says I'm fricken nuts. Maybe it's just me. Even if there's something weird going on, there's not a lot I can do from what you guys are saying, except to keep an eye on it to see if things get worse
