325i Hard to Start - United Bimmer Community

Hello Everyone,

I have been having an issue start my 92 325i lately. Since I changed my fuel pressure regulator last year (old one was leaking) the car would become hard to start when I would be low on fuel (1/4 tank or less). It would always crank and then start on the second try. As of late it is happening all of the time, again starting up on the second try after cranking for a few seconds shutting down a cranking again. Once the car is running, it runs fine except the occasional dip in the idle at a full stop, which has been around for as long as I have had the car. With a two year old running around, a baby on the way (next month) and the pregnant wife who is having a hard time, my time is extremely limited. I am wondering if anyone has had similar issues and might be able to help me fast track the repair. I am planning on changing out the fuel filter and cleaning (for starter) the IACV. Thanks

Might be the fuel level sender. It tells the car how much fuel is their. If not working properly the car may thing theirs no fuel when trying to start.

Also check your plugs and coil packs/boots just in case.

Thanks for the reply. Would that also affect the fuel gauge? I have not had a problem with that. I changed the plugs right before this started to happen and I have not noticed any other issues no loss of power.

It would effect the gauge in that the needle would not be accurate. You would see the needle moving up and down without consistency. This happened in my truck and below 1/4 tank of gas the gauge is completley unreliable. I can literally watch it bounce up and down because the fuel level sender has no clue how much fluid is actually their.
