bought a 318ti with ignition problems
just bought my first bmw 1995 318ti
the ignition harness needs to be replaced looks pretty simple the problem is this the two green wire harness the goes to the key switch is broken off the side of the ignition ring, also the key tumbler is shot just spins around needs to be replaced, i know the two green wires are part of a coded key system. my question is this can i get a harness and key tumbler Say with key from my local wrecking yard . is there any way to get the chip out of my old key to make this work. second question is the system going to be lock out because the green wires are ripped off the side of the key cylinder.and was tried to start without those wires being close to the key. the green wires went to the fine wire wraped like a coil around the key switch. im getting the whole set up from a wrecking yard today. i dont think i can use the key with new setup .can the chip in the keys be switched out so this will work HELP

The part that you are referring to is just a ring antenna that forms an inductive circuit with the ignition key to signal the EWS system of the car that the correct key is in use. The ignition tumbler is repairable or can be ordered with a new key from BMW to work with your car, but if you replace the ignition lock and key with one from a wrecking yard, you will need to get the immobiliser system reprogrammed. The ring antenna should be like this http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...9%29%2C%20Each and this link will help explain how to repair the ignition barrel http://www.unitedbimmer.com/forums/e...el-repair.html .
