What is this??I Have it in my car and now it's in Komodo's car?

This is a picture of when I first bought my car. At the top of the the front pillar there is a small black cylinder that is wired into the car. I never figured out what it was. Assuming it was some old factory alarm component.

But I was looking at the picture from Komodo's car. and he has the same exact thing in his car. My car is a 1995/1996 318i his car is a 1998 328i. What is it? and What's the connection?

Mine is the microphone from my voice control module I installed on my AVIC-N2 headunit.

However in my picture, I broke the top clip off the A-pillar, so it's sagging and looks pretty bad, hah. It's usuallly tucked neatly against the side.

My guess is it's the microphone from where your car was wired for a car phone a while back. (my dad's old jeep had the same kind of thing when he had a car phone years back)

my guess would also be a microphone for a permanently mounted cell phone that the previouos owner probably had
