adding oil: how often?

How often do you add oil to your car?

I usually have to add some every 3-4 weeks. My car just eats it up for some reason

you may want to get that looked at man, possibly an o-ring that is leaking oil somewhere and its getting burned up, but having to add that much oil so frequently cannot be normal

thats is a result of 2 things.

1 - your car is an auto

2 - you can't redline it hard causing the engine to burn oil.

I drive my car how it is supposed to be driven and have good compression and burn about a quart of oil every 3-4k. BMWs are designed to burn oil in this manner.

This man speaks the truth. BMWs do consume oil, it's not big deal.

well he said every three to four weeks, and i'm sure he doesnt drive 3-4k miles every 3-4 weeks. who said a little consumption was a bad thing? He said it "eats it up". A lot of cars happen to burn oil, not enough to need to put much more in every 3 weeks. As for the auto, i drive the car pretty hard but don't lose too much oil
