adding oil: how often?

How often do you add oil to your car?

I usually have to add some every 3-4 weeks. My car just eats it up for some reason

you may want to get that looked at man, possibly an o-ring that is leaking oil somewhere and its getting burned up, but having to add that much oil so frequently cannot be normal

i dont have to add oil to my 318. my e30 burns alot of oil at high rpms. i have to add a half quart after a day of autocross or a long highway cruise at 120mph

add oil when your car runs out.

thats is a result of 2 things.

1 - your car is an auto

2 - you can\'t redline it hard causing the engine to burn oil.

I drive my car how it is supposed to be driven and have good compression and burn about a quart of oil every 3-4k. BMWs are designed to burn oil in this manner.

This man speaks the truth. BMWs do consume oil, it\'s not big deal.

vEloCitY 3.1.8 04-26-2005 12:25 AM

so I should or should not be worried?

brien4787 04-26-2005 12:28 AM

i add oil to my 318 every 3-4 weeks too... not a whole lot... but sure it will burn a little bit... i think its normal..

well he said every three to four weeks, and i\'m sure he doesnt drive 3-4k miles every 3-4 weeks. who said a little consumption was a bad thing? He said it "eats it up". A lot of cars happen to burn oil, not enough to need to put much more in every 3 weeks. As for the auto, i drive the car pretty hard but don\'t lose too much oil

bostongreen18 04-26-2005 01:00 AM

i burn 1 quart for every 3-4 thousand miles

breden 04-26-2005 01:59 AM

my car drinks oil. it can use a quart every 800-1000 miles
