E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
I have gone 10,000 miles in mine (3 oil changes so far), and my oil hasn't gone down at all ever. I have read consumption is normal, but mine doesn't consume much at all. And it is a 5spd and I have mods and take her up to 6K occasionally.. I have been using synthetic blend tho..
Unless you see smoke billowing out the back I wouldn't worry.
she is due for inspection 2 soon, so ill figure out if there are any problems. higher consumption on M engines is not a rare thing at all, but with 83K, wear can start to rear its ugly head.
Doesn't anyone's car have an OIL SERVICE check light on the dash that tells you when to service the oil?!!!
or do I have a specially made E36?
Dude just wait until the green bars run down to yellow bars and then you flush and refill your oil....
so far I get about 8000k between oil changes...according to my car's meter. But it's defernet for everyone...based on climate, city/highway driving, driving conditions etc....

Whoa there delmarco. Calm down man. haha
He's asking about adding oil to the car, like it getting low. Not flushing it all out and replacing it.
LOL...nah...I'm calm...but isn't that what the green bars on the indicator tells you as well...the oil level remaining. (scratching head smiley would be here...if i could find it)

My 325i consumes oil also but its normal for BMW. Just keep an eye on it so you don't run short. As far as the service indicator lights this is what I found on the net.
Starting in 1999 modified engine tolerances, more advanced coatings and the use of BMW High Performance synthetic motor oil has made it possible to increase the service interval from approximately 7000 miles to approximately 15,000 miles. Your BMW service indicator system has been designed to assist you in the proper maintenance of your BMW. Alerting you when maintenance is due. Maintenance performed in accordance with your service lights will save you money on unnecessary oil changes, reduce the risk of possible breakdowns by finding any potential problems early, and maximize vehicle safety, reliability and resale value.

ok I know what the service indicator lights mean and I definately know when I need an oil change. I'm just talking about ADDING oil, not a complete oil change. Delmarco you must not understand my question because your car obviously doesnt need oil to be added in between oil changes. Hence the reason for the post, I thought it was a bit weird to go through so much oil.
who the hell trusts their idiot lights? i check my oil practically every 2 or 3 days, and i change every 3-4k, if my oil looks at all dirty of broken down before that i change it sooner.
