Beamer problems, dude

Hey can anyone help please.

my '92 325i is misfiring real bad, and im really new to beamers, i just got one. anyway it misfires at low RPM's really bad and loses power. the power curve is very erratic. the idle is the worst, and revving it up in neutral you can really hear and feel the engine popping and missing. anyone got an idea what it is?

How many miles do you have on it? And do you have previous maintenance records? It can be a multitude of things - but pre 93 they are notorious for timing belt issues. T Belts are usually good for 60k but check your records if you have them.

yeah its an old engine. 228k miles. i checked the plugs, coils, but i haven't done a compression test yet. i put all kinds of additives in the gas tank too to try to fix the problem too, but to no avail. so the T-belts go out easily? that could be it.

I'm working right now so this has to be quick. Be careful and/or try not to drive to much because if the belt goes it's going to bend some valves then it gets $$$ - i'll write more later or the others here will help you

Engine runs poorly or hesitates
- Check ignition system
- Check restrictions on fuek injectors
- Fuel pump output and delivery (fuels lines for restrictions) If pressure is low replace fuel pump.
Engine Lacks Power
- Tune up stats , Worn spark plugs, adjust or replace as needed.
- Air filter and intake system. Check for Restrictions or blockage.
- Check the sensor operation and wiring of fuel and ignition managment systems.
- Check throttle linkage, check to make sure it is fully opening throttle.
- Check for restricted Exhaust system?(bent or crimped exhaust pipes)
- Check for loose or defective Knock sensor( An improperly torqued or defective knock sensor will decrease spark advance and reduce power.Replace and torque to spec.
- Check for worn mechanical conditions (low compression, worn piston rings, worn valves, worn camshafts or replated parts.Rebuild or replace Engine.)
- Check engine oil level for being overfilled.
- Check intake manifold or vaccum hose leak(replace leaking gaskets, or hoses)

Also check for fault codes that may be stored. Read post #9 in this thread if you don't know how:

To clarify shpuz's post, Beamers (or Beemers) are motorcycles, Bimmers are cars
