That sounds pretty optimistic though. I doubt the water was dashboard height at it's highest.... so I'm thinking it might be okay afterall.... we'll see.
Wow everyone here arguing about whether the water was high enough needs to read his initial post. The water was more than liekly high enough, as he said, it was much higher in the AM and over night. Anyone even watch the news abotu this flood? It was ridiculously high. I know exactly how a aftermarket intake goes into the bumper vs. the localtion of the stock intake box. Just realize whatever he had, probably got fucked up.
How many miles do you have on the car Hutch? Even in good condition with high mileage you should be getting at least 10,500.

Fortunately water at the height of the air inlet is not a problem if it isn't running.
Only a big problem if it gets high enough to flow thru the valves in the head. Driving into water that deep is another story.
Changing all the fluids in case their was leakage thru any seals would be good though.
My friend in NO said the most exciting part was the ride in the Helicopter off of his roof

yea, terry made a good point hutch, check the dipstick, if water gets into your dipstick/oil pan, your motor will seize up, but not bad, because you can just flush it with oil, so just buy a TON of oil, do an oil change, start it for 10 seconds, do another, start it for 10 secs, then do another(with the synthetic oil this time, if u use synthetic) and run it

That really bites, but don't fret too soon. Let it dry out thoroughly and change all the fluids. I use to work for BMW NA (southeast region)based in Fla and we occassionally saw "beachers"(clowns who pass out on beach to awaken at high tide) and the majority of them survived salt water. Carpet & software can't be salvaged but with adequate drying time your electronics stand a better than 50% chance of survival. I've seen them w/waterlines in the headliners and survive - so give German quality a chance. If it was any other car mfgr it would be "swimmin' with the fishes"
Dude, my sympathies. We rented a house on Highland Lake (about 20 mi. north) for the week-end and the water came right up to the house. We had Direct tv but it didn't have local channels so all we knew was that it was raining like a cow pissin' on a flat rock. The homeowner called Sunday night and asked if we knew what was going on, I said we got some high water, he laughed and told us "You've got more than that, half of Keene is under water". Luckily the house was on higher ground and stayed dry, along with the car, but I wasn't about to attempt to drive through the 2 ft. of water covering the road every 2 miles. My wife says next time we're taking the Cherokee. Good luck with the flood and good luck with the bimmer!!
