Weird sound! Need help!
I don't know when this sound started but I got my oil changed today with redline oil and a mahle filter. ALso had my dinan TB put on as well. This sound could have originated before or after these events, I have no proof either way. And to be honest, it might be normal, not sure! Anyways, the sound is around the vanos ares and top part of the valve cover. More then likely it's the vanos unit. Anyways here is the video link.. you can hear it pretty good at the beginning... http://www.nwbmwclub.com/videos/MVI_0511.avi right click save as
also take a look at this video and see if this seems like a lot of smoke coming from my exhaust... http://www.nwbmwclub.com/videos/MVI_0512.avi right click save as..
thanks fellas.

can't really tell by the vid, but IF anything, sounds like your cam positioning sensor...
But IF it was something wrong with it, u'd get an engine code, so I think u'r fine...
THe new oil might just be lighter or heavier....

well, mine went bad a little while after I bought the car, wasn't expensive + very easy install, was just hard to get it connected since it connects under the manifold....
And my cams made a "similar" sound just louder... but it also threw an engine code... so I wouldn't worry...
Usually when my car is in the hands of others am overly picky when I get it back, so you just might be paying attention to something that was already there.
And thanks

lol the clips download for me in less than 5 secs per clip and my internet is normally slow. Hmm my car sounded kinda like that james when I went outside a few hrs ago.
Seems like a lot of smoke coming out the exhaust tho.

I think the smoke is from condensation as it went away like 20 mins later after it was completely warm.. it's getting cold outside now too... so it's more visible.

Yea, could just be the change in oil, give it a day or two and see what happens. The smoke doesn't look unusual at all to me.

haha yea its startin to get cold here, 45 degrees, so smoke is normal, 1 other thing, ever heard of the vanos noise? well it isnt the vanos noise b/c that is more like a bunch of marbles, but it may not be a coincidence that it happened right after you changed your oil..
and though #2, it sounds like something is rattling, like your fan might be lighting scraping something, i dunno
