Instrument Cluster E36 - CAN Network
Hi,
I am actually working on a project dealing with CAN network. I would like to do a demonstration of my work using the instrument cluster of the E36 BMW model. The demonstration would consist on sending CAN messages to the instrument cluster to control the elements of it. I have done a lot of research on internet and I have not found any information about the connectors of this instrument cluster. Does anybody have technical description of this ? And, Does anybody have information about the CAN identifier and CAN messages which are sent to the instrument cluster ? Thank you. |
Have a look at the BMW Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for the E36, which you can download free from here http://www.wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm it will give all the pinouts for the cluster and show connections.

Thank you for your reply.
I have read the manual and I think the E36 is not the proper instrument cluster for my demonstration. However I have found a lot of information about the E46 instrument cluster and I am sure I can control it using the CAN network. I have information concerning the connector of this instrument cluster (http://www.bmwgm5.com/E46_IKE_Connections.htm) and I know which instrument I can control with the CAN network (http://www.bmwtech.ru/pdf/e46/STO34%...Internet-1.pdf). But unfortunately, I do not know yet what are the CAN ID for each instruments and what data has to be sent to control them. Does anybody have information about it ? |
