E36 spare tire compartment restoration - United Bimmer Community

just finished a total like new restoration of my 95 E36 convertible's trunk an spare tire compartment. will provide a pic later in case anyone else needs to do it. all is in the right place except can't figure out where the factory supplied steel wheel chock gets stored. it has its own wing nut and a hole in it indicating that there should be a threaded stud to screw it to somewhere. anyone got a pic of the proper mounting location and method for it? i would sure appreciate

Welcome to United Bimmer. What kind of restoration did you complete? I have never heard of an E36 coming with a wheel chock. Can you be more specific?

see attached parts catalog pick for th e36 95 convertible. the chock is number 6 in the parts catalog image. i found where everythig else in this picture goes inthe spare tire ompartment except the steel wheel chock and the wingnut shown above it. so, i fastened it to the spare tire hold down stud on top of the center of the spare tire for now.

Welcome, and yes, Pictures would be nice.
I have a trailer hitch on my convertible and the installation was not that good and by now half the hitch is ripped out of the spare Tire compartment so I gotta fix and reenforce that.

sorry i didn't get the pics of the mysterious steel wheel chock in the parts list and the trunk/spare tire compartment posted till now. what do you think? the green device on the battery terminal is a switch that is aftermarket. allows you to turn of the battery ground connection to work on the car etc. by simply twisting the green knob. big time saver.

I can't upload pictures either so I post mine on Flickr and just paste the links in.

If you wanna host pics on the site go to the File Manager at the top of the page. Upload the picture with that and the. Take the link and put it in [IMG] tags and it should work. That's how my signature is set up.

Wolf, te reason that didn't work was because the image needs to be hosted by a file hosting service. If you have uploaded a picture through the UB File manager then underneath the picture name is the web link. You need to copy the web link and post it between the image tags. See example below:

[IMG]http://www.unitedbimmer.com/filename [\IMG]

However their isn't supposed to be a space after the file name and the last IMG tag. That's just their for illustration purposes.

one of the pics is the catalog showing the e36 steel wheel chock part that goes in the spare tire compartment .... somewhere.

figured i can just put the flikr url for my pics here. should be able to. if not i'll put the url in the file manager user interface. but... i must say... hanling pics is too complicated if that is what is really necessary

Interesting. I have two wheel chicks of identical design but dont have the front lip looking thing. However they came out of my truck. Not my BMW. I have never seen that in mine. And my owners manual doesn't mention a wheel chock but I'll look again. Now that I know what it looks like it should be be easier to help figure out where it would go.

yeah, nice little mistery huh?? my 95 318ic manual only talks about the jack it doesn't show the user where to get the jack and jack handle with a picture like my 61 corvette manual. i lover the German cars but for all the really cool engineering on some things, it is amazing how they messed up on so many simple things. a lot of things engineered for failure, cheap, plastic. etc. can't have everything i guess
