People actually use those lights?

Change the oil every 3000-4000 miles, or if it looks dirty. Go out to your car right now zeaq and pull out the dip stick, get some of it on your hands, it sould look slightly amber being a little bit transparent.. if not, just change it.

Well, I followed the BMW dealer procedure. The dealer follows the green indicator lights. My car is dealer maintain from the first day I own it.

Just wondering,
I know this is silly, since you all said it’s easy to change the oil. I can bring the car to any workshop that repairs various types of cars. They can do it. But if they did it, will the indicator lights goes back to 5?
Catalyst,
I like cars but I’m not into the mechanical side of it. I’m not even sure where the dip stick is.*silly me *

User not setup in Rate My Car.

no they most likely wont. I know that some german mechanics around here have the reset tool but most mechanics don't.

it is pretty easy to change the oil, but if you want to get it done by a mechanic that's perfectly fine too, a lot of people don't like to get their hands dirty with their cars.

^^Just tell the mechanic to ground pin #7 on the diagnostic connector for 3-4sec while the key is in the 2nd position. That will reset the oil service light. Best way to have a non-BMW mechanic to do your oil is to buy the oil filter kit for him. That way he has the o-rings and crush ring that he'll need to perform the job correctly.

Interesting DUDESKY E36,
I never knew it can be reset easily just like that. By the way, thanks for the useful information. KOMODO should make you mod of the E36 section. I mean seriously since I see all your posts are useful and informative.

He he, thanks . . BTW, Pin #7 also resets the inspection light, if you ground it for 13-14sec
