Shocks & Struts
Ok, Big fat negative on the GB for koni's.
So I need to focus on diff. shocks and struts, open to suggestions, but keep in mind I want to keep the ride as comfortable as I can with a drop. When I talked to Greg from Ko, I think he said he can get me Bilsteins all around for about $500, but it's been a while, so i could be mistaking.... But yeah, what kind of shocks and struts do you guys recomend? PS: I'd be going with H&R Springs |
$500 will definitely get you Bilstein Sports all around, which is the most common choice for lowered springs. Even your 'friends' from BavAuto sell it for about that price.
|
the bilsten kits are sweet I have a set of rear heavy Duty Bilstens in my rear right now.
I want to replace my stock fronts with matching HD Bilstens as well. Also get that camber kit when you lower... |

BavAuto also has Bilstein Touring shocks which are only a little firmer than stock (400.00 for the set). You might want to consider those. -Matt |
But, how do the billsteins ride? Better or worst than koni's?
|
bilstein shocks are nice. at least the cars I've driven with them are. but, I've never ridden on koni's so I couldn't tell you.
have you considered the sachs kit? edit: pp. 32-35 in bavauto fall |
too much of a drop for me, am not looking to drop it "that" much
Also, about the price, like I said I had asked him a while ago, so not sure if that's correct, he could have said 400 or even 300, I can't remember exactly what he had said, lol EDIT: called bav: Bilstein sports: $165 for each strut *2 = $330 $105 for each shock *2 = $210 $330 + $210 + $25 (shipping approx.) ------------ = $565 shipped. |
what's the drop on the bilstein coils? I'm pretty sure the sachs kit is only 1.4"F and 1.2"R
|
for a 96 328 they drop 1.6" all around
|
here's what I could find, it's for a 330i which probably weighs more than an e36.
H&R Cup Kits: 1.8"F - 1.5"R UUC Sachs Kits: 1.4"F - 1.2"R Eibach Pro-System Kits: 1.3"F - 1.2"R |
For E36:
H&R Cup Kits: 2.1"F - 1.7"R UUC Sachs Kits: 1.6"F - 1.4"R Eibach Pro-System Kits: 1.8"F - 1.5"R Am wanting something along the styles of 1"F and .5"R lol (H&R OE Sport Springs) |
where did you get this information?
|
|
I am so envious of the amount of cash you are throwing into that thing. Now save up and supercharge the beasty. :)
and I think you wanting to only drop it about an inch up front and .5 in the rear is a good and practical choice. |
Call your buddies at KO and ask them about Bilstein Sport and Touring shocks. If you are only going to use H&R OE springs I would deff get the Touring shocks, it is going to give you the closest to stock feel as you can get w/ out coilovers.
Buy the way, stop overanalyzing your set up, just pick one and go w/ it. :cheers -Matt |
