E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
it can only be wired to one of the rear window switches. If you wanted it in the front console then the job will be tougher. Mine isn't wired up yet. That is just a demo pic of what I've done so far. Basically it's just running wires into/under your speaker grill area and then thru your rear seats, thru the frame of the rear door sill and into one of the two rear door jamb areas, then you splice it with the ground and the power wires of the window...there something else involved but..that is what my guy in NY was telling me...how he would have done it.
$125 manual/non-powered to $500 full power at the dealership..
but do an EBAY MOTORS search for :"BMW rear shade" or "rear sunshades" and you'll find some sellers selling them in the $25 to $50 range. Make sure you get for the E36. Also I've heard the electric ons sold for the E39 and E38 can work in the E36.
nice man. yeah the rear shade in our fams e38 has been problematic recently, but hopefully it will be an easy fix. might just be out of alighnment. good luck with yours!
