Jerky auto transmission, now noisy too

My 1995 328i was always jerky when changing from first to second. The only way to stop this was to either boot it as hard as it would go or change into the snowflake setting on the auto box. Now its started making a whining noise on over run and set off atjunctions. Like a low growl as if from the torque converter. When normal road speed reached its fine. Any idea's?

Thanks

Low fluid, failing valve body/transmission. Has the transmission ever been serviced?

No, not as i'm aware. The fluid change seems to be the 'cure all'. So I'll try that.

Thanks Big Evil.

The reason the fluid change is using the "big cure all" is that BMW states their trannsmission fluid is a "lifetime" fluid and does not need changing. As with any fluid it will break down. From what i have heard/read, dont flush the transmission, just change the fluid. I have heard that flushing it can cause parts to become loose or damaged and not function properly anymore. Lots of people have reported better shifts with new fluid.
