okay, here is what is going on...
i just started college a couple weeks ago..
i am commuting the 1st semester, and its only a 25-30 minute drive.
i drive the freeway the whole way, driving 80-90 mph most of the time.
the rpm, since i am driving so fast, is on average 4k
...sometimes less, sometimes more
before starting school, for the past 2.5 years, i havnt had to check my oil much, because i wouldnt burn a whole lot.
but since i have been driving the freeway, for 1 hour a day, 4 days a week, for school... plus places that i usually go.. i have been running really low on oil at a pretty quick rate.
is it normal to be burning quite a bit of oil when the rpms are around 4000 for extended times?
the thing that bothers me is that i am predicting having to add a quart every week, or week and a half....
whacha guys think?
hmmm..... i dunno man. My 86 Benz burns oil like a bitch. But its really only noticable with extended highway driving. Unfortunaley for you your on the highway everyday for school so it will start to become alot more noticable than if u were just city driving like 5-6 blocks to skool.
well check, do you smell anything, any blue smoke? you may not be burning it, just leaking it, change your oil and put that sealer in there and see what happens
no blue smoke.... no burning smell..
Visually inspect the motor for leaks around the valve cover, seals, etc. Look underneath, too. Maybe you need to replace a gasket. More than likely it has to do with the age of motor; worn valve seals, or something like that. Some sealer mixed in the oil may help.
