E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Xsperf is right, you probably just have to bleed the system to make it stop overheating. I doubt it's the freeze plug. Probably the hose. You could also be in luck . . if it's the hose connection you should have enough slack to be able to just cut off the end and reattach it.
From my experience (and bad karma) with cars, here's what I can tell you. If you're getting a leak like that, then it's a pretty sure bet you'll get some more in the future, given the age and mileage of the car. I would start replacing all the hoses in the engine bay, just for good measure. Bimmerworld offers a coolant hose kit, which is just about everything you'd want to replace.
I Got to the busted hose and replaced it so no more sizzle sizze sounds or steam , unfortuately that didnt cut it , i took it for a drive and the need was fine ( in middle) then i keep driving and notice oh shit the needle is climbing! NOO!!!! so i get back home and look under the car, i find no drips ,, so um shit what next ?
Thermostat, that would be ur best bet.Your thermostat controls whether or not you car will over heat, if its fucked your car will. Its happened on my Mercedes before. I think the thermostat is like $60 CDN or something round there.
ok well i figured it out turns out it was a crappy 12.00 heater hose coming from the Block as one of the photos i posted in earlier threads this is how far i had to get down in it.
Unlike Del,, I do get my hands dirty , "Mechanic Style":

defkon, not me, but thats my brothers job, whenever we are workin on cars and theres a tight spot, he can get it, i can never, like i remember when we was replacing a clutch, there are two bolts that are impossible to get(they are like on top of the tranny) and somehow he squeezed his hand in there and got it(they had nuts on them so we couldnt just use extensions).. then he couldnt get his hand out, lol
