Dies after i turn off the Ac ? WTF!

OK so story goes.. when my Car is in park (idle) its running fine.

Now when i Turn on The AC i feel it kick in and it raises the idle just a bit ( still under 1k rpm) now when i turn off the AC the damn RPms drop wayy low and the engine dies.

Whats the deal Shitty gas? Dirty injectors? idle set too low?

any ideas would help. :wave

wow, thats a tricky one, do you have any other problems with idle? what is your idle normally at?

defkon99 08-25-2005 09:43 PM

like right under 1k rpm

xsperf 08-25-2005 10:19 PM

ok, heres another try

if you are driving normally, and you turn on the AC, do you feel a loss of power?

defkon99 08-25-2005 10:22 PM

yupps i feel it when the ac engages.

What happens if you just hit the gas a little before it dies, does that keep it from happening. I know when I turn off my ac the revs drop a decent ammount but I have never had it die.

defkon99 08-26-2005 05:54 PM

yea the revs drop then it dies
( only in park)

but when im driving its fine.n

guess its just my luck

btw Nice e30.! Looks good :rock

your problem might be your AC is overcharged try to get a gauge and check the pressure, most likely you will have too much, just take a screwdriver or whatever and push the pin in(just like the tire) and release pressure from both the high pressure and low pressure lines

the lines will run(when looking at your engine from the front) to the left of the engine, thick hose and thin hose

defkon, im not sure if you hav R134A or R12, i think its R12, but with these cars all you need to do is discharge the coolant and replace with R134A, but to do that, you will need a special fitment/adapter, advanced auto parts carries it(you will need it b/c the charging kits/pressure guage will not fit on it)

B3M2W5i 08-26-2005 07:52 PM

wont you also need to change the o-rings and such since they are different chemicals?

B3M2W5i 08-26-2005 07:53 PM

and you dont have to change to R134A people just choose to since it is now the most common i also think R12 blows cooler its just that R134A is better for the environment in case it leaks out

defkon99 08-26-2005 08:23 PM

no its r134a

xsperf 08-26-2005 09:04 PM

well then dont worry about the adapter or whatever, just make sure the pressure is right in the AC

If you hear a tiny rattling sound (like odd vibrations) around the junction your alternator and belts then it's your tension idle pulley!
change it ASAP!
