It's interesting that the spread id 2/3 manual & 1/3 automatic. I figured with a group of younger people on this board, there would be more manuals. The automatic still gives me the impression of an older person who has been there, done that, got bored.

honestly whats with all the slushboxes/pussomatic/shit-tronic/two peddlerrrs on this board? I half to speak out here, you will never be a good track driver on an auto, unless you are driving a drag car.
This is a Bmw board c'mon now. I do have sympathy for those of you who got good deals, but i live in freaking Atlanta, the most car dependent state and one of the most top traffic states in the world and I still drive a 5 speed. Get to autoX or bmw CCa and you will understand

I like how people always say "it's automatic, but it's got that thing where you shift between gears" when I ask them if they have a manual. If you don't modulate the clutch with your feet...
I have an automatic. however, when I got the car, i did not know how to drive manual. since learning, i regret the decision to get the autobox. suffice to say that my next car will be a manual.
thats why you learn how to drive before buying a car...didnt anyone else annoy the hell outta their parents when they had their permits? "cmon, cant i drive you to the market in the honda" sheeeeeit

Eventualy when I save the money I will buy the conversion to manual. Found the kit for $1500. Used but in good condition, less than 50,000 miles on them. Will install my self.
Why do all you guys with automatics offer an excuse? Are you embarassed? I drive an auto & proud of it I like sticks too, if I have that "hard on urdge" to hammer gears - I go out and fire up my bird. Now if I had a smaller or more "nimble" ride, it would be a different story. Besides that I don't spill half as many drinks as you guys
"Honest officer, I don't drink & drive. I always pull over" "Yes I have a drinking problem - 2 hands & 1 mouth"

Never be a good track driver. Michael Schumacher is a pretty good track driver. He drives the most sophisticated racing car in the world, Formula one. You know, the car that has computer controlled, paddle operated, transmission and computer controlled traction. Not everyone does track days, not everyone autocrosses. I used to live in Atlanta, and live near Atlanta now. If you like changing gears 5 million times a day, fine. I don't. I do drive to the mountains occasionally and strafe the curves. Auto works fine there. Yes, this is a BMW board, and I own a BMW. Amazing how that works out.
