E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Aight, my car has a front end vibration under braking.. im positive its a combo of warped rotors and bad balljoints.
So im replacing the rotors and pads, i have replacement CAB's for the lollypops, and replacement outer balljoints.
The main reason im replacing the balljoints and not the whole arm is because the previous owner had bought new balljoints to have them replaced but i bought the car before he had a chance to have the work done, so he threw the balljoints in for free.
So dont lecture me on just doing the whole arm - im not.
i went to autozone to check out the tool they rent out and it seems like it would work fine..
no, this is new to me, ive replaced balljoints on many cars, i didnt know they need to be pressed? do you only have to compress the inner balljoint? lol with the outer balljoint we just used the ghetto way by shoving a HUGE crowbar or just a long pipe between the two things and seperating them.. lol.. CMON PUSH PUSH! there ya go

Any info would be great.. i would just go ahead and do it, but ive heard its a bitch, and would like someone whos done it to chime in with some more tips.
I've been told they're a bitch to get off, and you really gotta pound the living crap out of them. It's summer time, and it's hot out . . you sure you wanna go through this?? If it was me, I'd sell the ball joints on eBay and get new control arms, and be done with it in less than half the time. But if you dead set on it, here's some info that might help . .
oh yes, this reminds me, lol when me and my two brothers were replacing the engine in the car, we attempted to drop the subframe so we can put the new engine in(the old engine came out the front of the car, the bumper had been removed) so we tried seperating the subframe from the balljoints, and leave the rest hanging with the struts, and we tried for like an hour trying to get it off, we got 1 off in like 2 mins, and the other we couldnt get off, so we just unscrewed it from the suspension(and also from the steering) and we dropped the whole thing
