Need advice on mods

OK, as most of you know I got a decent amount of ponies coming my way by the end of this week.

Now I am getting ~$1000 soon from an insurance settlement.

I have the option of either doing a drop:

H&R OE Sport springs with Koni Adjustables, M3 Control Arm Bushings and the "Suspension install package"

OR

Since am getting more air IN the engine more air would need to go OUT, therefore there will be some added backpressure....

I have been doing a crap load of reading here and there and getting as many sound clips are possible, and I am leaning towards the AA E36 Generation 3 High Flow Exhaust.

This is what am wanting MY exhaust to sound like:

Nice "rumble" at idle, moderately loud at low RPMS, and head turning sound at WOT. AND MOST IMPORTANT = NOT RICEY SOUNDING! What I enjoy doing is playing with my exhaust "tapping" the gas just to get that low rpms rumble...

from what I have read the AA Gen 3 would be a good match for my needs.

So what do you guys think?

Suspension or Exhaust? (IF exhaust, do you agree with my decision?) I mainly need some advice on the choice of the exhaust bcs BMW's choice for aftermarket exhaust isn't the same as it was for my mustang, you can't just get 2 flowmasters and throw them on there bcs the choice is much wider and the risk of a crappy sounding exhaust is possible. And I too like most guys of my age do tend to come home very late at nights so that is why I don't want it TOO loud at low rpm's...

EDIT:
And on a side note, If I do one first, the other mod will come next asap (meaning as soon as I save up for it)....

go with the exhaust, my e36 was lowered and had low profile tires, and it was extremely uncomfortable, it didnt have adjustables, which was the next mod, but it was giong to get sold anyway

DEATH2000 08-15-2005 10:39 PM

yea, id go with the exhaust for now, as for the AA Gen 3 ive never heard it so i dunno. But as you may know Supersprint is really good, and youll be able to hear it when harry posts some vids.

Rooz 08-15-2005 10:44 PM

You can't go by harry's car for exhaust sounds, he has track pipes...

brien4787 08-15-2005 10:45 PM

suspension would be my first mod...
but since you already got cams and other things... i guess your stock exhaust COULD be resitricting you, but i wouldnt jump to that conclusion... ask a few mechanics about that...

if they say it will affect performance to the extent that it is noticable, then sure, an after market exhaust might be a good idea... but if not... then obviously, it will be for sound reasons...

that 3rd gen exhaust isnt loud at all by the way, just to let you know

I asked 3 of the mechanics that I know and they all agreed that my stock ehxaust would be holding my car back...

And what exhaust would you rec. if not the Gen3... (please keep in mind what I want out of an exhaust...)

xsperf 08-15-2005 11:34 PM

i dont know about you, but whenever anyone asks me about exhaust ialways say the gen 3, but then i stumbled upon eismann.. that sounds really nice too, if you want videos ask, i can just post them up(i posted links in komodo's exhaust thread)

brien4787 08-16-2005 02:04 AM

im not trying to make you run from the AA, just telling you its not loud... my buddy has one on his m3 and hates it.. i think its nice, but i guess he wished that he had something loud

Spieluhr 08-16-2005 02:30 AM

go for the exhaust dude. I am sure you will still be enjoying the improved handling just from your new wheels and tires that it can hold you over. But the sound of that awesome exhaust will put a smile on your face every time you start it up. :)

can I get some vids of an AA Gen3?

(I know about that europeancarweb.com) I meant home made vids?

And maybe that eismann??

I love it when the exhaust "rumbles" at idle, and like I said, moderatly loud at low RPMs and Head Turning loud at WOT, doesn't have to be "unbearably loud"

Storamin 08-16-2005 09:37 AM

UUC System U w/ DTM Tips.

Unbearably loud... for komodo :P

xsperf 08-16-2005 11:46 AM

not europeancarweb, they dont have vid of AA gen 3, but if you go to the AA website, www.activeautowerke.com they have vids on there, and if you go the eisenmann website, www.eisenhaus.com and pretend you are following through with your order, right before you pay there are exhaust vids(also check out the vids from the m5)
