well i swap this summer, not going to tell insurance that my car has an m3 motor in it, granted i take it as a loss if i get in an accident... the way i look at it is 1) it wont be driven everyday 2) if i do get in an accident hopefully not any damage to the engine and i will buy the car back and pull the motor and sell or put in a new car 3) umm.... yeah once again wont be on the road everday... once hte swap is done ill drive it a little bit and itll see my garage a lot as it gets ready for the other stuff i need to get done to it, while all this is going down i htink im going to get an e34 or e30, or maybe i just wont sell the 318

swaping the engine and tranny would cost you more than 7k

dude, whats the mileage on your current motor?

its seems very stupid to pay the extra cash for a 328 if your just going to rip out its heart for an s50/2

if your really serious about this i would suggest selling your car and picking up a high mileage 325, you could get one mad cheap, and if your upgrading the suspension and brakes anyway, the mileage wouldnt really matter.. as long as chassis wear wasnt to bad.

Just seems like your doing this a lil ass backwards. Your call though.

This is what I would do: Keep the 2.8l engine, swap and put m3 cams, m50 intake manifold, 3.5 cai, 3.5 HFM and dinan 3.5 throttlebody and oh yeah, have a custom shark injector made. Then swap and put in at least a 5spd in. Right there he's looking at 4-5 total with those mods. Right the rest of the money, AA Track Pipe and a good exhaust system and use the rest for visual upgrades :P

the amount of money you have would probably almost be enough for a really good turbo setup that would give you the potential for much much more hp than an m3 motor would have. of course you would still need to get the manual tranny, lsd, clutch, brakes and suspension upgrades but you would need that anyway if you went with the m motor. keep the 2.8 and get a turbo

talked with parents about the money from insurance settlement, they say it needs to go to my new car payments, cause thats their money and they want it towards the car.

oh well though, you guys really shed a lot of light on the whole subject, and I see what you mean by keeping the 328 engine, sounds like it has a lot more potential than I realized

I plan on working my @$$ off all summer to mod out my car and start tracking it. so stay tuned for mods!

I need mods that my parents won't necessarily know about. So i'm gonna try and get a stock m3 exhaust, intake, and some other stuff.
