Smell of gas
I think I have a problem?
I have a 95 325is, after I drive the car and then parked it; I smell gas from the car. Why is that? Thank for any reply |
It might be something as simple as you overfilled the tank a bit, so when you took a turn, some of it spilled out.
However worst case it could be an issue or leak with the fuel system, which is serious of course. Do you have a check engine light? If not, it's probably not too bad. |

This is exactly what I was thinking, Happens to my car ever once and a while. |
If you haven't driven the car in a while or if it's been sitting around for a couple of weeks, the seals may just be dry. Give it some time. If this is not the case, and the other answers above this post don't seem to work out, check the hoses and gasket around the fuel pump, located under the rear seat. It's a fairly common issue.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll check those things out today. |
check that the gas cap is tightly closed too. That happened when my wife got gas once.. Didn't close it all the way.
|
yeah check for any leaks around fuel pump.

No, my check engine light is not on and the gas is not overfilled. |
probably a leakly fuel line would be my guess. Do you see any spilage anywhere?
|
if there is no leakage, I guarantee you that your gas cap isn't sealed all the way.
|
happend to me once, turned out like everyone else says I had overfilled my gas tank so just make sure gas tank cap is on good and clean that area really well...
|
Also the gas cap might be on all the way, but the rubber might be rubbing thin. Examine it closely, and if so, they're like $11 at a dealership.
|
There are no puddles under the car. The cap is on tight and the smell is coming from under the drive side or so, it's around that area.
|
under the drivers side..that is where the fuel lines run. I would get under there and check for moisture on/ near the lines. IF you cant see anything and the smell persists you should have a pro check it out...you dont want to be driving around in 3000 lbs bomb..
