BMW 320i E36 horn not working? Please help!
My horn has a problem and I need it working for roadworthy.
The relays make a clicking noise when the horn is depressed. Does this this indicate that the horn button/clockwork spring/contacts at the steering wheel are okay?
Also tested the fuse and all okay.
I removed the plugs of the horns and tested with a multimeter and there is no voltage there when the horn is sounded- all I can hear is the clicking noise of the relay. Also swapped the relays and this didn't change anything.
The ABS light also turns on intermittently (on sometimes, off others) if this has any relation to the problems. Any suggestions on what's wrong with this would also help.

Ok just had a look at the diagram in the Hayned Manual, there's not a lot to the horn circuit and I think the ABS light is a seperate fault. If the relay clicks then power is reaching the relay from the column switch, so you can count out a problem there. The relay itself could be faulty, you need to pull out the relay and check for 12 volts at terminal "30" (in the socket where the relay fits). If you have 12v there the problem is the wiring from the relay to the horn itself.
When you checked at the horn for voltage, where did you earth the multimeter to? Was it the horn connector or a metal part nearby? If it was the connector then try another earth (ground) maybe the earthing is bad.

oops sorry reread and noticed you'd swapped the relay. Earth is a good possibility I think, try earthing the meter probe to a nearby metal area then see if you have 12v at the horn when you press the switch. If you have the easiest fix is to run a new earth wire to a nearby bolt
