Cheapest water pump price?

Changing out my water pump, and $58 at AutohauzAz is the cheapest I've seen . . anyone found a cheaper price? I thought I saw it for like $46 someplace, but I can't remember where.

Make sure you get a metal based one.. don't just get an oem plastic one again... go to understeer.com and order one.

:rock Link hey i found this one shippping from Ohio $45.00 + 7.50 S/h = $52.50

BRAND NEW Meyle Water Pump that fits many late model BMW's. This is a premium water pump with a Metal Impeller. The earlier plastic impeller water pumps have a high failure rate. This Pump Also fits E36 M3's to replace the plastic style pump.

i have a question, what years were the impellers made of plastic? what year were they replaced with the metal ones (if they were factory replaced)?

Cause ive heard alot about it and all but i just wanna know if my '98 328i would still have the plastic one.

yea and how do i know if i have a plastic one? i heard something about it being orange?

Dudesky 08-01-2005 11:10 PM

From what I've heard, the plastic (orange) impellers were used up till early '97. But there's no way to tell for sure without removing the pump. If you're not sure, don't play Russian Roulette with it, just change it out for peace of mind.

Mine was already changed out and has about 30k on a metal impeller, but I figure I should replace it again while I have everything apart . . . I'll be flushing the coolant, doing the fan delete mod, switching to an aluminum thermostat housing, and replacing the upper & lower radiator hoses. After this, I should be good to go for a while.

[Edit]: Ahhh, found one on eBay for $41 :D

K thanks, good to know. When i do the fan delete mod (when i get more money) ill replace the impeller and do some of the stuff you are. probably smart in the long run

both the metal and plastic impellar pumps can fail.. this seems to be one of the parts BMW can't get right. Nice cheap fix tho
