Might be doing M cams

Yeap, that's right, I might be doing M3 S52 cams. That mod was always in the back of my head and now that I have money (Also Deloriant kinda spirited me in doing it) I been asking around to see first if I can find someone to do software, and today at worked I figured wth might asked some of the guys. And I talked to one of the techs at work, he's got a mustang that is modded like no other, thought he had it chipped but turns out he didn't, BUT good news is that he has a friend that has this extremely modded 240sx (puts out 500hp, yes turbo...) but anyways, that guy has custom software on his car and he knows a place that does a good job at a decent price. Well, the tech said he'd ask his friend where he had his software done So there is hope... If not I'll call tuner peops and see if they can do something for me..

I think understeer has a kit that comes with the software needed. M3 cams would be an awesome mod.

Here
About 3/4 of the way down where it says Conforti Performance Chips / Software there is an option to choose installed mods. One is m3 cams it cost like $300 more. OR a little further down they have the whole kit.

m3 cams are a great upgrade. If you get a good deal on that software from the custom place. Let me know.

^^ am not sure yet, I have just began shopping. I might call my friend, the one that gets me BMW parts at employee cost and see how much I can get some new M3 cams for....

But so far am just shopping around, but if I can get the whole thing for ~ 1k, I would be more than happy.

Also, I hear this mod gives 20-30hp, any details on this? Specially how much Torque would I be expecting to gain out of this?

BMW4Life, going by that link I would need the last two options on that "Eurosport High Performance E36 2.8L Cam System" which are "M3 S52B32 Used Cams + Software Only" = $1194

When I do this mod I'm looking at:

$300 for cams and then installation ($200-300?) if you can't find a cam timing tool to borrow.
$675 for software from Turner (Conforti)
$100-125 for M50 manifold

I've also read experiences from one or two BFC member that only ran the basic Shark software ($375) and the car ran just fine.

please let me know where you can find cams for $300.... and also, M50 manifolds without a kit can be a big kick in the rear...

You should be able to find used S52 cams in the classifieds for $300. I saw some not to long ago. I wouldn't pay more than $400 even for a low mileage pair. I've got pretty much anything I need in my garage to work on any type of car so swapping a manifold should be a walk in the park for my skill level. Restoring (4) 60s-70s British sports cars teaches you a thing or two. I've also wrenched on my dad's 2 E36s and 2 E34s before getting my own E36 328is.

If you guys know or hear of any good places to go for some used cams at a good price, let me know. I'll even wire you the money and pay for you to ship them out if that's what it comes down to.

are cams a direct bolt on or would I need to replace other stuff along with them?

Yep, I did a decent amount of research on this a while ago and learned that a shark injector will work fine with s52 cams, however you might get a little less gains than with the tuned software for cams. I had found a pair of used cams for $300, but I backed out of it. It is possible to find deals like that though. You should be able to find an m50 manifold for around $100 shipped, putting your total at $400 so far. If you want to do software, it's a little expensive, around $600, but there's no reason you should have to go much over $1k. I've heard it's a great mod and gives great gains. jrhaile on here has done them and recommends it highly.

thing is, I am looking into getting a good 0-60 time, and that's why am not too thrilled with m50 manifolds because I hear that they reduce your lower rpm torque a good bit...

Also, where did you find the M3 S52 cams for $300?

ok, am getting the feelinf that well:

S52 cams (+ software) = Great
M50 manifold (+software) = Great
S52 cams + M50 Manifolds + Software = AWSOME

Now, am I correct, bcs apparently those three seem to go in hand to hand...
