non vanos worth it?

I might take a look at a 325 (1992). I dont think that 92 had vanos, my question is, should i stay away? is not having vanos going to make a big difference?

not having the vanos does suck.. it's a noticable difference in power imo. Before I bought mine, I was looking at a 92 325i and it was nothing compared to the 95 I tes drove and bought...

yea, jrhaile is right, vanos can make a big diff. vanos is basicly the BMW (better) version of honda's vtech.

There are alot of plus's and minus's between the two.

Non vanos has a hotter cam, stronger valve springs and can be bored to 3.2L (or stroked)

Vanos has weaker valve springs, the cams arent as hot, and can only be bored to 3.0L (or stroked)

Ive never driven non vanos so idk how much of a difference in power there is.

Basically non vanos is better if your going to build an N/A race motor.. i doubt you will do that, so vanos would probably be a better choice.

I'd get a non-Vanos M50 if I was going to do a motorswap.

Hmmm.. I would say that out of the hole Vanos is better. Once you are in second gear though the power band is all wrong. I get all of my power from 3500-7000 RPM and everytime I change gears I am right back in the meat of that power band.

Vanos cars kind of lose breath after 5000 RPM.. so you shift sooner putting you at a lower RPM. The non-vanos cars where really popular on the race track. Since 1st gear is almost never used.

Also the 92 was the lightest E36 (Besides the LTW)
