Need a little A/C help

My A/C has been blowing hot air ever since I had the car. I assumed it was low on R134a. I bought the recharge kit and went through the process of refilling. Turns out the freon level is already perfect. What else is the problem? I can hear the A/C engage and the RPM's dip slightly So I know it activates.. Do I need a new compressor? or what? Thanks for the help..

yes, you may need a new compressor or condensor, but if your compressor kicks in, its probably your condensor

are you SURE the frion level was perfect?

could be a leak perhaps, not sure mine blows hot and it's being fixed.

Yea the level was good according to the gauge on the can. And since the system was holding good pressure it can't be a leak. When I put the A/C on the rpms dip and the aux fan kicks on so does that mean the compressor is working?

xsperf 07-21-2005 02:16 PM

well it means that the compressor does turn on, but who knows, doesnt mean it actually works, but most likely it does(when your RPMS dip and all that happens, that is your compressor being engaged)

thanks for the help. I think im above my head on this one tho. I'd rather have it checked by someone with some A/c knowledge. I have about zero when it comes to the A/C system..

so u have the AC on when u checked the gauge on the can?

i did this to mine last week my steps to a full recharged system was:

1. attach r-134a to low connection ( can should read overfilled until u turn on AC)
2. turn on car and have the Ac engaged (can should read zero or empty now)
3. have some one inside give a bit of throttle as you untighten the screw so the freon will come out. Person inside should say that they feel the cooler air. and when the can is empty or at the safe level on the gauge youre done.

just lettin ya know how i did it.

I basically did the same procedure. The only differemce was I did not have anyone rev the car. When I first attached the can with the car started and A/C on the gauge read that it was at a good level. I tried to spray more freon in anyway but it seemed as if it wouldnt allow more freon to go in..

Old thread bump, sorry.

1994 325i Sedan - will the standard R134a refill cans from say, Target or Walmart, fit on the AC refill stem?

Dudesky 06-18-2006 01:35 PM

^^^Yes. If it doesn't, then you're attaching to the wrong fitting.

cc-vortex 06-18-2006 02:08 PM

I tried it on the bottom stem, the one with the blue dot.
That the right one?

cc-vortex 06-18-2006 02:44 PM

I figured it out - it's the one on the inside, closest to the motor.
Thanks for your reply though Dudesky.
