DO NOT go with Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs

Someone here mentioned that you should not use the paltinum +4 spark plugs. Well, they were absolutely correct. My 5th cylinder was misfiring due to a bad spark plug. BMW told me that I should not use those plugs because this happens all the time. I had those plugs for a week before I lost cylinder 5. Beware DO NOT USE THOSE PLUGS! NOT WORTH IT!

I had a ball joint to replace, needed an alignment, inspection, and 2 thruster arms.. Total bill - $941 + tax after my BMWCCA discount of $110.

I have saved over $300 thanks to BMWCCA. I think I am going to become a lifetime member.

I told you.. stick with stock :P

billycuth 07-19-2005 10:09 AM

yeah yeah... ;P

car does not use enough electricity to get a reliable spart outta the platnums. the coppers are ok for use if i remember correctly.

Spieluhr 07-19-2005 03:54 PM

coppers all the time.

I did the same thing when I was young and foolish, used Platinum +4 and they worked great for a while then they started misfiring and shit.

jrhaile 07-19-2005 04:01 PM

Aren't you only 17 man? No offense on your age or anything, but when did you have time to be young and foolish with your bimmer? :P I'm just playing with ya Nate.

htp.bmw 07-19-2005 04:52 PM

so if I want a better performing spark plug like the bosch plats what kind should i use

jrhaile 07-19-2005 04:58 PM

I'm going to say it again: Stock. These cars have no need for more spark. Unless you go with an ignition coil/spark plug kit for 1000 bucks which will add 6hp, it's not worth it. There is no such thing as a performance plug with e36s. I've tried everthing and had problems with every plug except copper and stock.

If you have a M42 or M44, BMW recommends using the Platinum +4s. I've had no problems with mine.

lol, I know, and I figured I would probably get a comment from that.

no, when I had my 325 i didnt make some of the best choices (AKA: I didn't do my research).

billycuth 07-20-2005 07:10 AM

Well, I did buy the plasma ignition coils. That, coupled with the plus fours, and I only got a good week out of them. The car was fast as shit (as you'll remember my throttle response thread)... Alas, the misfire in cylinder 5 was due to the plugs. Only a week!

defkon99 07-21-2005 11:08 AM

so i say again what do we use? :dunno

im currently using the DEnso Iridium Plugs , there.. ok maybe we all need to upgrade from that crappy Bosch coil, to some of those Plasma Coils. then we can get the most out of them damn plugs that others say are sooo good :woot
