328is suggested engine mods?
Hey guys, my name is Eric and am new to BMW's and this forum. I came from the Honda world as a teen, and want a newer nicer DD.
I have some questions regarding engine mods with my 328is coupe. I plan, for now to keep the entire exhaust system/header stock and only plan on bolt-ons with this car.
I would like to replace EVERYTHING intake related.
Which intake manifold would you guys suggest?
Which throttle body?
Im also wondering if all m3 cams are the same, or if obd1 cams are better than obd2 cams or vise versa?
And what engine management would you suggest for a bolt on, cam'd 328is?
are all obd1 intake manifolds the same? or are m3's differant than 325's?
which tb would u suggest with an obd1 intake manifold?
and would you guys suggest the 3.5" hfm and 3.5" intake, or stock hfm and 3" intake for stock block, stock exhaust, 328is with 95 intake mani, m3 cams and intake?
which for of engine management?
Honestly, the BMW's are a different beast vs the japanese built cars. For the most part, the exhaust and intakes on these are pretty damn good right from the factory. You might gain a few HP, but nothing major can be gained from bolt-ons. Big HP increases means finding a reground camshaft and that can be some serious $$. Tuned exhaust headers help a fair bit, but again, serious $$ for the right ones. For the most part, bolt-ons are really good at depleting your bank account.
Best bang for the buck: Chip the ECU. Most HP for the $$. You'll have to run Premium (91 octane), but the gains are nothing to sneeze about.
I wish you well on your quest.
