HELP! Dealership wants $450 for ABS left wheel sensor!!!

So I need any advice before tomorrow morning or tonight...

My car is at BMW Of Manhattan and they are asking for $450 to

A. Replace my ABS left wheel sensor
B. Pass my Car's yearly state inspection
C. About $117 of the $450 is already billed for them just to diagnose it.

My Service guy already told me my car is NOT passing state inspection with the ABS light on like that...is that true for some states?

I tought ABS was an optional safety-luxury and not a required safety-standard..

what is up with that?

Also I tought someone mentioned that the actual sensor itself costs like $28 dollars....is that true?

Where can I get it (I'm about to call BAVAUTO) ? and where-else other than the dealership can i install it? Finally, can i DIY?

I could get you that part at BMW employee cost, but you would have to pay for shipping from NC to NY and pay me in advance...

Nah, I need that ABS light to come off before monday. So that I could get my new inspection sticker and pass inspection...I'm already a month expired and I dont want a $300 ticket.

BMW is going to fix it tomorrow morning and pass my car for inspection and I'll be able to get my car back tomorrow with the sticker...but I DO NOT want to pay the $450 for a shitty sensor wire that I KNOW cost about $28.....

How much is that ABS sensor for just the left wheel BTW? anyone knows?

So after doing lots o research on the web and phone....The cheapest I found the sensor to be was 123.99 which was also the dealer's price for the sensor so I let them do it...

The cost break down:

$117.99 to look and diagnose at the ABS system
$123.99 for the sensor itself
$107.99 Labour to install (this is BMW standard daily rate-which isn't so bad)
$37.99 State Inspection passed!

total
plus taxes:
about $450.00

Don't buy yourself a rare 5 series then. The shocks in my car are $2,500NZD each. Sensors $700NZD. It just goes on.

But it's a brilliant car, so I'm not complaining.
