E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I am new to this forum. I would like to thank you guys for putting together such a useful source of information. I just got a '99 328i conv. but I need some small stupid parts that nobody seems to list.
I would like to replace my cup holders ( the little fingers are broken and fell off when i removed them for cleaning.)
And the most annoying thing, my glove box button falls off. the lock works but the button seems to have lost it's teeth that keep it in and the spring that pushes it out. I really don't want to replace the whole lock just the stupid button.
And lastly, anyone know where I can get a small amount of touch-up paint. I have a couple small chips and would like to touch them up.
The glovebox issue is a comon problem on our cars... I am sure you can find a DIY fix for it somewhere here... if not use this:
Fix A Sagging Glovebox Door
Tired of your glovebox door sagging down and leaving a gap at the top? Of course you are! Here's a quick and simple way to fix it.
You will need the following:
- Hand drill
- A small drill bit
- Tape measure
- Small screws
- Screwdriver
Open the glovebox. Along the top edge of the glovebox measure and mark spots 2 1/2" to the left and right of the latch. Using a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the treads of your screws, drill holes when you made the marks. Tighten a screw in both holes. The screws will clamp the glovebox tighter against the vent panel behind it.
And I am pretty sure you can find the touch-up-paints at your local BMW dealership, if not let me know what color your car is and I'll tell you what color from another brand would match it best....
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.

I haven't taken any pics of mine yet the previous pic was taken by the former owner, I'll get a couple tomorrow, they won't look so good it's raining here and now it needs a bath. but i'll live. This is the second convertible that I have owned and it is the smoothest car I have ever driven. the top doesn't rattle or make any noise. It was well maintained and my petty bitching about little things really doesn't do it justice. basically I fell in love with it the very first time I drove it. now for all you curious types out there that wonder what they look like these are good representations the first is obviously a better match than the second.
Have you tried stopping by the parts department at your local dealership? Maybe do that and get all the bmw part numbers, then look around online for a cheaper price on the same part number.
As for touch up paint I bought mine from the dealership for $26.
if i were youi would make sure to get only oem bmwtouch up paint. sure it may be a lot for paint but it is not really that much money. you want to make sure you only use the good stuff.
Thank you all, I will purchase the touch-up paint from the dealer, you guys are right it is totally worth it. they should be able to help me with my other two items as well.
As promised here she is with her top up. (she still needs a bath)
