E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Hi everyone
I have a 1995 (build Feb) 325ic M50 engine and i am wondering if there is a cheatercord available from the round BMW diagnostics plug to either OBD1 or OBD2.
Or even easier, does anyone know if my car has an OBD1 plug hidden somewhere?
My Cylinder head just went because the Idiot gauges did not show overheating....
I also read that there is a double output sensor available so you can attach an aftermarket Water temp gauge plus your original. Any info where I could get that?

Your car is OBD1 compliant and you should be able to read the trouble codes using this method http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...de_Reading.htm . You will require an ADS interface and 20pin cable to conduct full diagnostics on your car and the best one I know of is made right in the USA by rv8flyboy from bimmerforums.com.

Hi David

What i am really looking for I think is: Can i hook up somehow a PLX100 or 200 Gauge to my BMW so I get proper warnings about overheating and other issues before the Head goes???
All help is really appreciated.....

The PLX gauges look good but I have no experience with them. My 323i has a VDO cluster wired in and although unlike the PLX system, it requires parallel circuits for oil temp, oil pressure and volts at least if I lose one circuit, the remaining gauges still work. In spite of all the latest techno stuff, I still think that good quality, accurate oil temp and oil pressure gauges are the best engine insurance you can get as I have seen water temp gauges fail to indicate a problem when there was a rapid coolant loss due to a burst hose (no water to measure the temperature of).
