Edit: This might work for bentley manuals too as long as the condition was kept well.

We had some positive feedback and it seems like a very practical idea... so let's get together a rough list of potential purchases. Nothing crazy expensive, and nothing that would cost a lot to ship. Let's stick to e36 only first to see how it works, since that's the majority of the memberbase. Loan time would probably be about one week.

So far I'm thinking:

-Airbag Light Reset Tool
-OBD2 Code Reader
-Oil Light Reset Tool

Anything else? Or what do you guys think about this idea? Think it could work?

well i guess i wont be able to take part in this, :( i dont own no e36, only e46, and we still have 90% of our warranty left :)

Good idea, but I don't think everyone on here is real honest. I have most of those tools already, but I am not loaning them out lol (Actually I have them all).

Honesty wouldn't be a factor. In order to get it, they have to pay me the entire price of the tool plus shipping. When they return it to me I refund them the entire price of the tool, so all they paid was shipping. There's no risk on ub.c's part, because if they don't return it, we just use their deposit and buy a new tool to replace it. :)

That sounds like a great idea, although I do have access to these tools, there may be a time when I do need something I don't have and don't feel like paying full-price just to use it once.

That's our goal.

The question is do you think it would benifit the members enough to invest in them?

I would rarely use it, so I'm not too sure.

well thats a good start, but the oil reset tool isnt worth it because you can make one w/ a bunch of paper clips and stuff, and its really not worth it to spend 60 dollars or whatever, but i would suggest having a pole of our first item and whatever that is, is what will be bought

OBD 1 code reader would be nice too...

ya, oil resets are so easy... all you need is one paper clip

OBDI and OBDII code readers can be had at your local Schucks or automotive store for free. I personally would never rent one.

The airbag light reset tool however is another story.

Some things off the top of my head:

RTAB puller / press
Rear wheel bearing extractor / installer
OBD II code reader
Tie rod separators
Front wheel bearing loader
Ball joint press
Control arm bushing installer
SRS reset tool

Question is, does the site actually make enough money to buy these things?

Those sound heavy, haha, how would shipping be on those items, and do you think there's enough demand for them to invest?

I think the SRS airbag reset light tool should be the first and only item for "rent" to test this notion first. This seems to be a common problem for many and it isnt cheap for a one-time use item. And the dealer charges $90 friggin bucks for this reset...If your willing to ship this thing out to people and keep track of it then by all means this sounds like a good idea..

Honestly i think if you did buy those tools people would become members here just to borrow them, haha, as so many people have to rent them from places, which isnt exactly cheap.

btw, i would borrow the srs tool right off the bat if you bought it.
