Anyone know or have a diagram

Of the firing order of the cylinders in the 328i inline 6? I need to determine which cylinder is registered as #5. My Chilton manual is burried in packing boxes. Please help!

Cylinder #1 is at the front of the engine.

so if cylinder 5 is misfiring, I would want to work on the second one in, when looking at the car from the front. I think it is a problem with the ignition coil boot most likely, as I have replaced the spark plug and the ignition coil - just did that last week. I think I will buy one boot for now to replace it (one of the boots was in bad shape, but since I didn't have a replacement, I let it go...)

Sounds about right . . I referenced the Bentley manual for you, but it doesn't differentiate between M50 and M52 motors, only between the 4 and I6, so I assume it's the same for the 325 & 328.

thanks man. hopefully I can get this straight so I can get inspected at a local mech, instead of having the dealer diagnose this for me (I don't trust my local mech for finding problems... they seem to create them as they work on my car)

are we sure that the second cylinder in is cylinder #5? I replaced the boot last night but STILL get a misfire on cylinder 5. All the ignition parts are brand new, except for the wires that the coil plugs into.

Anyone got any ideas on what could be a cause for this bullshite?

well, it's back to the dealer. there must be an underlying problem causing the coil to go bad. I hope it isn't a head gasket, or anything major like that.

One nice thing about dealers, or at least the dealer I take my car to, they let me pimp around in an x-3 while I wait for my baby to get better. The x-3 has nice performance for an SUV and even though its too small for me (suv wise) it is very comfortable....

i believe cylnder five is the one not all the way to the back, but the one right before it

secondly: you dont need to know, there is something called a spark plug tester - advanced auto parts/ autozone sell it, and u connect it up to your coil and it tells u if ur coil is bad(even though its called spark plug tester)
