obd2 scanner issues

hi guys just a bit of help needed
trying to locate problem on my 97 323i
im having stalling issues with the car and had the crank sensor and icv replaced and the car ran awesome for about 2 months then the problem came back again.
so recently bought a obd2 scan tool to see if i could find problem that i have had
cause i dont seem to have the port under the dash (apparently not available on
australian e36 beemers) so im going thought the under bonnet 20 pin port.
But the system is telling me that it cant connect to the ecu
i reads that there is voltage but no signal from anything else

its a elm 327 interface with scan master program

thanks

Elm is not worth a pinch on E36's go to this forum http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...prune=30&f=233 and download INPA/DIS - you can get an ADS interface to suit your car for about $150 and you will have dealer level diagnostic, programming and coding capability. You can't beat BMW software for working on their cars.
