High pitch noise from front of my e36
The engine ran great. Its a 92 325i with 87,000 miles. Then stop. I thought it was the starter then changed it. It was not. There is a very high pitch noise coming from the front about where the timing chain is. The engine turns over, but will not start.

Check drive belts
Have you checked the drive belts? According to Bentley:
"Replacement of V-belts (a.k.a. serpentine) is recommended every 4 years. Inspect belts with engine off. Twist belt to inspect sidewalls and bottom. Belt structural damage, glazed or shiny sidewalls, caused by loose belt, or separation are all reasons for replacement." You may also have to replace the idler pulley, hydraulic belt tensioner, and tensioner roller. All pretty cheap fixes and rather simple to do yourself. |
Bingo, sounds like the best place to start. More often than not the idler/tensioner pulley is the culprit but check them all
