E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I placed an order for a Lilliput 7" VGA TouchScreen LCD. (the base comes off leaving it as just a screen)
My plans are to go closer to this look:
I'm going to remove my onboard computer and take out the sunglass holder, dremeling the bottom of the shelf out. This should allow me to slide this new touchscreen lcd into the slot perfectly. It matches exactly and lines up looking like OEM.
The nice thing is it's a VGA screen, so it supports high resolutions (lots of detail and good quality). I'm going to build a mini computer and mount it in the trunk of the car, connecting to this screen. It's obviously going to be tied into the car sound system and I'll mount an rca switchbox in my glovebox to change between the AVIC-N2 and the 2nd lcd screen (keep in mind my new headunit also has a 7" motorized screen built in also for gps and dvds and stuff). I'll use this for divx movies and checking my email and stuff. I would like to mount my gps antenna in an e46 style sharkfin on the roof, also using it for an 802.11g wireless internet antenna (basically hardwiring my car for 802.11g).

you should connect your onboard computer to that LCD screen so you dont lose all of those nice features.. although im pretty sure thats what you are going to do

I'm going to get the same functionality, but the software is going to tap into the OBD2 directly, rather than having that ugly led and buttons computer unit. It'll be all modern.
Goodwork.. But I hope you have very strong windows.. Thats a slot of money sittin right there for the taking..
With the city we live in, there's no threat. Everywhere you turn there are SL500's, SL55/65s, a week or two ago we saw a lambo merci... every single parking lot has AT LEAST one car wayyy nicer than mine in it. No one would mess with my car, I'm the underling around here. haha
That's a cool idea, but I need my cupholder too much. haha
I'm probably just gonna ditch the obc, unless i find somewhere else cool to mount it.... hum
Though in that picture where the remote is, that's where i'd put the keypad for the ignition if i do that- replacing the ashtray.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
