1995 BMW 318i pops out of first

I just recently bought a 1995 BMW 318i with this problem with in mind to just replace the tranny. Some people are telling me that I might not have to that it could be somthin as small as replacing the fluid or changing the bushings. It pops out of first gear every single time it isn't somthin that happens every now and then. All the other gears work perfect even reverse. Was wondering what some of you might think.

Edit: I would also like to add that I can start in first if I hold it in there really tight. It will give it a small kick at first but the take off fine.

Only makes sense to try the simpler and cheaper approaches first. Change the transmission fluid for sure, and my bet is that the shifter bushings need to be replaced. Much better than an entire transmission.
