Code reading

Ok, my 92 325i has a big round 20 pin connector (i think it's 20 pin) anyway, I was planning on getting an obd reader, but am not sure what to get.

I am told i need an obd1 reader and that an obd2 won't work, is this true?
And if so what is the correct one to get?
If someone could scan ebay for the correct one i would appreciate it alot.
Thanks.

92 is OBD 1. Good luck. 96 and newer is OBD II and it didn't even really get used for diag on beemers till around 2000. You may have luck finding a used scanner that'll work, but don't count on it. Sorry, sucks.....seriously

on OBD1 you can look up error codes via the gas pedal method, look it up its easy and works and best of all its free.

That worked scooter. Thanks alot!
Now the flashes that i got were this. I did this for about 15mins and wrote them all down and it kept going in the same sequence.

1 4 4 4

1L 1 4 4

4 1L 1 4

4 4 1L 1

4 4 4 1L

When it flashed a 1, for some of them the light stayed on for about 1.5seconds, and other 1's it only flashed quickly. I marked L beside the 1's that stayed on longer.

I tried to look up the codes and the only one i found was 1444 and it says "no failures".
There is defiantly something wrong with my car as i've posted.
It bucks and cuts out randomly.
And it should be giving me a code for a bad 02 sensor cuz it's not even plugged in.

I kinda feel like a douche lol.

Those were constant 1444 codes. Everytime when the light came on and stayed on for roughly 1.5-2seconds it was starting all over again with the constant 1444.

Now i'm getting code 1216 which is Throttle Potentiometer.
