E36 Remote central locking query

Hello

I've recently become the proud owner of a 1992 J reg 320se and i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong with the remote central locking.

Say i've been out driving the car and i park it up, i get out and press the button on the remote device and the indicators flash twice, the door buttons all go down, then they come back up again, if i press it again the indicators flash once more but nothing else happens. When i press it a third time it finally locks, with the indicators flashing again. This process has to be done quite slowly cos if i try pressing the remote three times quickly the alarm just goes off!
When the car is locked, pressing the remote once opens the car as you would expect.
So the question is, is this the normal procedure for locking the car with the remote or am i doing something wrong? All other cars i've had with remote central locking have locked and opened with just one press on the remote.
Thanks Guys

Sounds like a door isn't fully closed, or at least the car "thinks" one of the doors isn't fully closed. I'd check the door pin switches.
