Overheating issues

The overheating thing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here's an update. Was installing new thermostat and overtightened bolt on housing. Busted a big chunk off the aluminim housing. Steeler has the plastic replacement. Shall i go with the plastic, or try again with aluminum and just be damn carefull this time? i went ahead and pulled the h20 pump, it is metal. The connection fopr the fan has a little play though, any thoughts on that. I mean a teeny tiny bit of play.
now the crazy part. The hose coming off top of radiator going to thermo housing was bone dry, turned white inside. also the hose coming from bottom of radiator going into the otherside of thermo housing, bone dry and white. The thermostat was also white. but when I removed h20 pump there was fluid that came out. I drove this sucker home last night like that, it didnt overheat again. Is the hoses being dry like that what happens when the thermostat is locked shut? Have I been driving around without a flush from the radiator. thats crazy! Its been holding up like that for probably 500 miles that ive put on it since I bought it a few weeks ago. IS it wierd that the water in the radiator never made it to the engine but still blew out when it overheated, i mean what overheated it if it never flushed throught the engine..bizzare. My fan works fine I did check that.

thanks,
Cam
