E36 power window problem

Hello just joined hope I can get some help. I have a 93 325is coupe problem started with the passenger door window regulator arm pin poping out of the clip and not closing all the way, I repaired that and greased the rails now works fine so I decided let me grease the drivers door to avoid the same problem (mistake don't fix whats not broke) so I opened it greased it then the nylon slide broke so I got a new one put it in and tried it but everytime I go up and down the pin pops out of it, after 5 or 6 times of going up and down trying to see why this happens the window stopped going up. It goes down fine but to get it back up I have to open and close the door and it goes up the 1/2 inch to seal the window and stays there after 20 times the window is up all the way and drops when I open the door and raises when I close it. It seem like it thinks the window is all the way up when I have it lowered and doesn't responed to the up switch. I switched the driver and passenger switches no luck any ideas?

Couple of things, you said you "greased" the rails. What with? I haven't been in one of these window systems yet but are there any micro switches visible on it? Excess lube could have fouled one up if so. From what you're describing it sounds like an intermittent operation problem. That is usually caused by chaffed wires grounding out where they shouldn't. With the pin popping out and the window getting wonky has it moved or pinched any of the wires going to the motor? Swapping the switches didn't do anything so that would seem to indicate the problem is inside the door itself.

I didn't see anything on the rails I think the motor keeps track of where the window is I think the problem is in the motor assembly. I've read somewhere that there is a magnet on the motor shaft that becomes dislodged. Like I said it goes down fine but not up, no relay click or anything but works correctly when opening and closing the door.

If a magnet came off the shaft it wouldn't work at all in either direction. If the motor does in fact track the location of the window then you have a module attached to the motor. It's most likely lost it's reference point. I'm not familiar with the reset procedure if that's the case. Ford mustangs do exactly what you're describing with their windows (motor/module that tracks the window location and has a "short drop" function when opening and closing the door). The reset procedure for them is to disconnect the power to them while they are operating. Wait a few minutes, reconnect the power and go full up then full down with the door closed. Might work, might not. If you have access to a workshop manual (proper one) check it out, it may be different for yours.

Mine did the same thing before here is what I did, striped the passenger side and checked the window motor, good, then checked power window switch, good not grounded, check for excess "grease on rails" , looks good also, then when it comes on resetting it actually worked so it depends on what would the solution may be.
