Question TCM wiring short (Infamous "!" yellow transmission light)

My E36 ('93 325i) has the famous "Transmission Control Module" light on in the dash. It turns on just whenever it feels like it and drops into 3rd gear when I'm driving. I got it checked for codes and was told there are several possibilities but that it's most likely a short in the wiring somewhere between the transmission and computer. Has anyone else ever had this problem, or does anyone know where the short could be at? Any help or ideas are much appreciated!

Get under the car and start looking for wiring harness damage, loose/damaged connectors. Wiring harness not secured and flopping about and or loose sensors. Worn or missing/damaged engine or transmission mounts. Usually an intermittent fault can be traced to that kind of stuff, otherwise tranny or module internals are getting hinky but that's less common.

Transmission control

hey I was facing the same problem for the past 4 months but it has suddenly disappeared since last week or so....I am worried it might come back again....I guess it is the wire harness which gets disconnected or something

cheers
