M42 Smoking problem!! Help PLZ!!
Hey Guys
I drive a 95' 318i with a m42 engine. It has 370 000km on the clocks, still got the original head everything. I've noticed that the car is using ALOT of oil, and whilst your driving or idling, you can smell the oil burning. It also makes a hell of alot of steam out the exhaust when driving and idling. it also uses a noticeable amot of coolant. And yes, she does smoke, you can see it's oil burning.
Do you guys think it's time for a recon on the head, or the whole motor?
PLease help!!

There was a problem with the "timing case gasket" on the 4-cylinder engines, leading to slow or sudden coolant loss. Run an Internet search for more information. Not sure if a rebuild is practical or doable in such situations.
