E36 Coupe central locking problems

Hi,
i disconnected my battery (under bonnet) whilst i fed some wires through from my radio to my boot. Upon reattaching battery everything appeared fine.
My alarm which is aftermarket, locks and opens my car no problem, however the next day, after arriving home, with my windows and sunroof open, i decided to look cool and close them all at once with my key, as i sometimes do.
I put the key in, turned 15 degrees to the left, and nothing., not a sausage. nada.
upon further examination, the doors will not close using the key. but will with alarm. from inside the car, each door will lock on its own, but not together as it ought to.
took it to the local BMW dealer and they tried an alternate central locking brain, nothing. no difference.
did all the usual window and roof resets, and everything in the car works perfectly as it ought to, apart from the key in the door locks.
any ideas as this is even stumping the bmw people.
cheers
Chris

Something got knocked loose when you fished the wires through maybe? Could also be RFI (radio frequency interference) from the radio/speaker wires running to close to a module? Did you pull the head unit out? Maybe something got pulled out behind/around it. Retrace when it worked vs. not working, chances are you'll find your answer

checked and rechecked. nothing i did in theory ought to cause it. bmw tried differenct c/l units, none work. but it locks with alarm. thats because the alarms tells it to by bypassing the bmw unit. i have an autoelectrian hopefully calling to check it later. its strange tho.

auto electrician stumped. tried my c/l box on someone elses e36, worked 100%, therefore problem with the car.... weird.. so if anyone has read this, any helpful suggestions?
